Vane Compressor with Beveled Vanes

Greetings-
I have a vane type air compressor used with a vintage air whistle. The outside edge of each vane has a slight bevel on one side. Does anyone know with direction the beveled edge should face (leading or trailing direction of rotation)? I unfortunately did not take notice of direction when disassembling for maintenance.
Thanks in advance,
Dan
