Repacking a 6 Man Life Raft?

Has anyone tried to repack a 6 man life raft. I have a switlick that I wanted to check myself. Held air (no loss for 5 days) so I need to repack the thing. Is there a trick...How do the packers get that large raft into the hard side unit?

I hate to say this but given a raft has everything to do with saving your life if and when you ever need it, I would let the professionals pack it. It also won't be certified in any way if you pack it.

Do a search for this topic. There are several other posts here on CF with many constructive pointers. Some people swear by self-packing.

spent a year repacking safety packs and we would use shop vacs to suck the air 100% out but the only way to do this was with a little tool that would plug into the fill valve and open it up the 1 way valve, the the vac would attach to the tool.

I have not tried repacking, but I had to open one up to extract various hazardous materials before shipping, and I thought to myself, "Why does it cost so much to get one of these inspected?" I really don't see what there is in the process that is beyond the capabilities of the average cruiser.

To tell you the truth there isn't really much to it. I am sure if you saw it done there would be no problem doing it yourself. Not to be rude to the inspector who dose your raft but he dose not really care as much about packing that raft as you would.

Repacked my own last season. May not be for everyone, but I'm glad I did it.
