Leech line chafe

The leech at the top of my mainsail has some fraying thread on it. I believe it may be rubbing on the topping lift. To repair this can I just add a rectangular piece over the top of the chafed area?

Re: Leech line chafe

I would just slap a chafe patch/tape on it. That way you can do it year after year if you have to without compromising it with stitching holes. That stuff stays on a surprisingly long time.

Your solution will work. Use zigzag stitches so you can rip them out when it comes time to replace this patch.

HOWEVER, be careful not to put stiches through the leech line which is inside this area. The leech line cord must remain free to move.

Re: Leech line chafe

I put a piece of sail repair tape on the damaged section and it appears to be holding up after a few weeks. Thanks for the replies.
