Is an angle in my mizzen boom a bad thing?

Hello all,

If my mizzen boom is parallel it hits my head when standing at the helm. If I cant it up a bit, less than 5 degrees I'd say, I can easily fit under it. Difference of 5'9" and 5'11" off the deck.

I'm in the process of adding a bimini to my boat AND also getting my mizzen sail repaired.

Is it a bad thing to add an angle into my mizzen boom and then tailor the sail to fit the new boom angle? I really like standing at the helm without stooping over.

If you’re getting a new sail then no, all you’re doing is losing a tiny bit of sail area. Make sure the sailmaker knows the angle though, as otherwise your mizzen will be baggy.

Instead of an angled mizzen how about raising the boom by moving the gooseneck to accommodate your bimini and your noggen. Then it won’t look odd.
