Jabsco Macerator Pump - Model 18590-2092

Hi all,
this item (installed 2/2020) has started leaking between the body (8) and the motor (11). Refer attached exploded view.

I have tightened the four bolts at the macerator end and even the motor end ones. No difference.

Before I go through the exercise of dis-assembly, does anyone have a better level of familiarity as to the reasoning.

By the way, the pump may have taken a hit when I pushed / pulled through replacement 38 mm ID sanitation hose which comes out near the pump.

Another 'by the way', the 25 mm ID sanitation hose which exits the top of the macerator (immediately above the leak point) does not seem to be leaking - observation based on the good ol' paper towel trick.

By the way, the macerator is mounted horizontally, despite what the attached pic implies.

There is a good chance that installing new hoses pulled connections out of alignment, but I suspect you compounded that problem by OVER-tightened those bolts to fix it instead of easing the pull to one side. Over-tightening causes the rubber gasket to "pucker" around bolts or screws, creating leaks that are made worse by over-tightening even more.


First you need to do whatever is necessary to relax the "sideways" stress the hose is causing. Then you'll need new gaskets 'cuz the rubber now has permanent puckers. And this time only tighten barely snug. Run water through it to check each connection for leaks (I'd do one connection at a time)...tighten only 1/4 more and check again. Repeat till that connection no longer leaks, then do the other one.

Well, that was interesting, the cause of the leak seems to be the disappearance of the 'seal - part #9'.
The gasket closer to the motor was mush.
Need to check the stainless shaft for pitting.
So, if shaft okay, service kit will need to be sourced - little change out of USD $135 in Australia for this group of items!

Glad to help any time, Barney! You shouldn't need an entire rebuild kit just to get gaskets. Check US sources...that won't help the rate of exchange but you can prob'ly get a whole set of gaskets can airmailed in a padded envelope for less that you'd have to pay from any dealer in OZ.

Noticing that your pump was installed 2 years ago...from first use, liquid has been trying to get at those 4 bolts and rust them out. I've had a number of these Jabsco's, but even while working well, I've had those (long) bolts rust badly and break, creating a leak. My own neglect I assume. Just wondering if any of your 4 bolts might be compromised?

Jabsco macerator pump...only used to dump holding tank, which--if you're in the US--is only legal to do when in open sea at least 3 miles from the nearest point of land on the whole US coastline. If you're on inland waters, you won't need one.
