I love the programs, but every week he really bashes into something. Hire boat companies must have a man on standby when they return with a bucket of paint to touch up.

We on the other hand only had allisons, normally trying to get through a tunnel.

Weavis and I like You Tube Cruising the Cut series. Ex BBC producer or something so really good YT vlog.

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

Interesting.
I’m sure these canals were originally commercial, but surely not anymore? Who maintains them? He operated the locks himself?
I assume anchoring of course is out, so do you jus tie up where you can? Do you pay for that, or do most seawalls at towns have cleats and just let you tie up?
Are Marina’s as common as they seemed as I assume that is where you get water, fuel and pump out?

I recommend replacing the small diesel with 4 of the new 425hp Yamahas. Having someone walk slowly alongside you while you're at cruising speed is just wrong!

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

Surprisingly some canal boats do carry anchors, danforth types as many of the canals are also link to rivers across the country. However, a mooring spike is the usual method of tying up to the canal bank. The Canal and River Trust formerly British Waterways a Gov dept has been placing armco barriers along strecthes were erosion can be a problem. You can tie up to these and a special large shackle slots into the metal barrier to hold you in place.

A woman walking her dog walked passed us as we chugged along the canal. It's just a completely different lifestyle.

What is quite astonishing, is that for 50 years teams of amateur volunteers have been giving up there spare time to dig out the old canals with very limited funding. This has brought back into use hundreds of miles of canals and locks for the good of all. Businesses have seen the old canal docks in many towns once restored attract people in and offer locations for canal users to moor up for free whilst spending money in shops and restaurants etc.

Once you have your supplies off to explore the wilds.

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

What does it cost to hire on for a couple of weeks, and what are the requirements?
Then silly question but is a port to port pass standard?

So a basic 35ft canal boat cost us £550 for a week out of season going up to £800 at the height of the summer. Canals are much quieter in the Spring and Autumn. A more posh or longer canal boat with more beds will be 50% - 100% more.

Our Boat Rental Rates. Bettisfield Boats.

The boat has heating, shower room and loo, single double bed, gas cooker and fully equipped including bedding etc. We took our own mifi and ran the laptops off the 600w inverter on board. 4G available even in the countryside.

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

Better add a sonar to that given the canals are quite shallow.

We were offered life jackets when we chartered. However, they did say if you fall in, just stand up
