Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat

Way to go, Gary! Looks much nicer than some of the traditional narrowboats I recall seeing in old Blighty many years ago.

Enjoy the hell out of her!

Halfway around the world from you, Gary, so my congratulations are late, but the boat looks lovely. What is her name?

In my provincial thinking, having triple glazing on the hatch is wonderful, and so is the heating stove!

I bet you're really going to have a super time with her!

Cheers,

Ann

It doesn't help that my lady is seasick. The canals dont appear to bother her so its a winner.

The Youtubers that inspired me to look at widebeams.

...
I do understand the money side of things, and if the wifey gets seasick, that has to respected.

We watched a some of the canal boat videos, there sure are a bunch of them know. We liked

and

On our first trip to Ireland we met a guy in a boatyard fixing up his narrow boat. He had just met us at a "BBQ" at the boat yard, and after a bunch of good food, alcohol, and conversation, he gave me the keys to the boat so we could have a tour. It was late at night at this point and he was heading home so we were going to look at the boat in the morning. Unfortunately, it had started to rain and it rained for the next couple of days. His boat was tarped up pretty well and we did not want to open the tarps to get into the boat much less make a mess inside with our sorta muddy shoes. Never saw the guy again and left the keys with the boat yard owners. We REALLY wanted to see the interior of the boat. The exterior was stunning.

On a second trip to Ireland, we went to a distillery in Dublin and had a tasting of the products. Sitting next to us was a couple from Germany who we started talking too. Well the wifey was doing the talking. The German couple would save up their money and then run off for vacations. They liked renting canal boats and were renting one down in a marina near the port of Dublin.

We were renting an AirBnb house within walking distance and had gotten to know our way around a bit. The German couple were heading to another distillery for another tasting so we took them in that direction and then pointed them on their way. We were finally going to get into the Guinness Store house for the tour. We went up on the tour, looked at the Dublin skyline and had our two beers.

When we left, we turned the corner at the store house to head back to our AirBnb, and lo and behold, the German couple were right there! What are the odds? If they or we had been 15-30 seconds earlier or later, we would have missed each other.

Sad thing is that we spent more time talking with the German couple than any of the people in the neighborhood we were in with the AirBnb.

Later,
Dan

Hi, Weav,

Are you staying put, or cruising a little on the sunshiney days? Sounds like you've fixed it so you can be as warm as you want. Such luxury. Is the vessel fully insulated?

Enjoy,

Ann & Jim

We have a national lockdown here in the UK so we have been based in London for 3 months. Fortunately, this is an ethnic Pakistani/Indian area so all food stores are open and wonderful. Canal boats are not supposed to move except for essentials so here I is.

Mandy is from Hong Kong and is proficient in Creditcard wielding and using, so we have deliveries as required from supermarkets and Amazon to the boat.

We are looking to go to Eastbourne and put a bid on a small hotel or guesthouse to turn it into a patient in stay place...... we may leave the widebeam in London to use as a clinic... we will see what time and costs bring. Im not sure it will ever return to normal in the UK, so many businesses and incomes destroyed.
