1991 Beneteau Moorings 38?? - Pre purchase

Hey guys,

I recently put an offer in on a 91 beneteau moorings 38. I live in Nashville and it is located in Knoxville at the same Yacht Club my good bud is docked at (which is the reason I heard about it). The seller is 78 years old and getting out of sailing, and has had the boat since 2006 and been to the caribbean 4 times. The boat looks great to me when I went and viewed it. The interior is solid minus the vinyl peeling off in some spots, but otherwise looks like a sound boat. It comes with some good electronics as well. The only considerable things that I have found wrong with it so far that I know of:

- Roller furling got damaged during transport and it does not have one, only has the forestay
- Jib sheet is original (1991)
- Main sail is (2006)
- all running rigging is original and frayed
- bottom job is 6 years old.

The good news is the engine was rebuilt in 2006 and has about 1500 hours on it.

That is all before the survey. So we put an offer on it and were able to lock it in for 37k.

The survey is next week and I would like to know some more info on the boat, as I am having a hard time finding a lot of info on it considering it was obviously built for moorings charter in that year. I have heard to not buy a charter boat.

My immediate plans are to live aboard for exactly 2 years while I finish my schooling, on a local lake here, sailing around and shaking her down. And then take it to the gulf, and ultimately the islands for an extended vacation. I know this boat can handle that no problem. But I am curious as to peoples opinions on this boat, and if you think its a good deal. It seems great so far, and would probably cost about 10k to get all rigging/furling system/bottom job/ship it to the other side of the state in order.

It is the shoal draft version so the keel is I believe 4'10, and from what the owner said the mast is 52 feet. Im wondering if this boat is going to be decent for extended cruising and what everyones thoughts are. Just making sure Im not getting into a boat that will be too light and dangerous in anything other than perfect weather.

Thanks in advance. Heres the link to it.
