Searching for liability insurance not requiring a survey, in mediterranean

Basically just what the title says! It is apparently very easy to get when you live in Europe as I have found many insurance companies in France and UK who provide this. BUT the boat will be registered in Canada, and this closes all the doors for easy & cheap insurance so far.

Let me know if you know of any company that will offer what I am looking for. Right now I don't have time to use the boat and/or be there to have a survey done, I just want insurance to make the marina and neighbors happy:P

I tried them in the US and France with no succes, but from what I read I should try the UK and Deutch location as their policies may differ. Will check into that monday

The german ones have reasonable policies (IIRC we pay ~120 Euro per year for 10 Mio Euro coverage). The dutch Eerdmans competes on the German market so should similar.

At least Bavaria and Wehring-Wolfes don't require a survey. The others I don't know.

I used Pantaenius in their Hamburg office. They didn't require a survey,
But I knew the agent and he knew the boat. Not sure if this is a case by case situation. When I was preparing for Transatlantic and switch to Pantaenius US, I was required to have a survey.i got that in Portugal.

You didn't mention age and model of your boat. That might affect need for a survey.

Hmm sorry but I think it is a good idea of insurance companies to ask for a survey - even an elder one to make sure the boat is OK?

And it is a good feeling to have it surveyed and accepted by the IC.

Yes I kind of understand insurance companies who want to make sure the boat is not derelict. But as of right now I just don't have time to be there to have a survey done. The boat is a custom 1990 catamaran so this possibly does not help the case...

And also, the only quote I have received so far for a survey is 1400 euro!! I have no personal interest in the report, it is only for insurance. To me it is not justified to ask such price for what is after all a very simple boat (simple construction technique, nothing hidden, with only basic offshore equipment... no boards, no bridgedeck, tiller steering, etc etc)

My Canadian insurance company requires a survey every five years. My agent says it's so you can prove there is actually a boat. How would you prove your boat actually exists without a survey?

liability ONLY insurance does not require a survey. We've been insured by both Progressive (in the US) and Aviva in Canada and neither required a survey for liability only insurance. My experience has been the same for the last 25 years of ownership. ( my boats tend to be inexpensive) and I have NEVER been asked for a survey for liability only insurance. a survey for Liability only insurance isn't insuring the boat bot the operator.

Yep, I've done the liability ONLY before and never been asked for a survey, as you say it's insurance for the operator only not the vessel, so a survey is not required......

Progressive insurance doesn't cover boats outside of the USA. The OP'S boat is in the Med!

Try dolphin insurance out of Vancouver B.C. I've got 2 million liability worldwide for about 800 bucks. Can't remember if I had to send them a previous survey or not.
