Re: Hanging a Dinghy

It might help if we knew:

What sort of dinghy?

What sort of powerboat?

Where in the world?

What sort of areas/conditions you typical operate in?

I don't believe in capital punishment, so I can never endorse hanging a dinghy

Re: Hanging a Dinghy

Some might be so soft hearted they didn't want to suspend one, either.

However, knowing what size dinghy, how heavy the motor and dinghy are, how suitable the davits, Would also help. Most commonly two block tackles are used, and two of them, but one might need the extra help of three.

Too many unknowns to be able to say....

Re: Hanging a Dinghy

Mike, common systems are from Weaver, Seawise, Nautley, Hurley, Jatco, Freedom Lift, TnT... but most of these aren't "hanging" systems (except for one of the Jatco models).

In addition to all that other info folks have mentioned that would be necessary to help... do you really mean "hang" or are other mounting solutions (like above) viable?

I think St. Croix makes a "hanging" system... and there are others that I can't remember names for, just now...

Re: Hanging a Dinghy

You guys are far too charitable in replying to this one. How long did it take Mikekomm to write that line? It’s not even certain whether he has twin or just one davit. StuM’s reply should be the end to it—until he takes the trouble to offer more obvious pertinent information—which might be just tooooo time consuming.
It also might be significant that he’s a “power boater,” but I don’t want to be accused of being racist.

Not particularly funny... if you even meant it to be.

Re: Hanging a Dinghy

Go to a boat show, (Annapolis), and talk to the many vendors. Take plenty of photos, videos, dimensions.

Google search images of dinghy davits.

Re: Hanging a Dinghy

On reflection I did use the wrong word. It should have read “biased,” but the observation still stands.
