Antifoul Paint - Do you add any 'extras'

I've read various suggestions of adding a variety of substances to antifoul to make it more potent and extend its life. Here are a few:
Cayenne Pepper and various curry and/or chllli concoctions
tetracycline powder
copper naphthenate powder or cuprous oxide
Tributyltin oxide (TBTO)

I even wondered about just adding a cup full of fine cooper filings from the machine shop to a 4 litre (gallon) can.

Just wondering what the experiences have been of those people who've tried any all of these. Particularly with soft ablative paint for yachts.

From the multinational, multi-billion dollar corporations that manufacture anti fouling paints and have spent hundreds of millions of dollars on R&D over many decades- "Why didn't we think of that?!!??"

Need to check with a chemist but I think the stuff you need is copper oxide rather than neat copper.

Internationals VC offshore comes with the copper oxide separately and you add it to the mix before applying. This could be just a good advertising scam to make you think the bag of copper is actually going to do something useful.

The EU are thinking of banning anyone doing their own antifouling work, roll on Brexit

By far the most useful things you can do is apply lots of paint and then use the boat regularly.

I add 1 jar of Nescafe Instant Coffee per gallon of antifouling.

It keeps the barnacles happy.

Isn't that, essentially, what Copper Cote is? Copper bits stuck in resin.

Try it in a section and test it for a season.

Yes after application it needs to be sanded to expose the copper particles

The difference is one is an epoxy and the other is a paint.

Re: Antifoul Paint - Do you add any 'extras'

TBTO has been banned, changes the DNA of shell fish, amongst other evils. I got some on my neck many years ago. It still weeps pus. On the lighter side, I once used fat, lime and chillies on my then current yacht. Smeared half of it on and went to lunch
Came back to find most of it gone, but then found little mounds of it up the road. That scavenging dog was sick for days. I imagine the fish would have felt the same.

Yes, I worry about the Asian coal ships' anti foul polluting the reef with TBTO. They are moored here for weeks and are a constant stream. IMO regs have banned it. But no one is checking
It was playing havoc with the Hawkesbury oysters when it was legal here

Those "douchebags" would include the majority of private boat owners in the Caribbean as well as every single commercial boat in the world including those in the USA.
