Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Safety measures like bars blocking hatch openings etc. are not to cope with crime; they are the gatekeeper, in case the normal measures like not going where it's bad etc. fail. They are like a fire... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I just tie footlong pieces of string to my chain: 1st at 60’ then 2 at 120’ etc. Even though these pieces of string just hang loose this has worked 100% over the 10+ years that we’ve been doing it. ... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I am extremely happy with my Maxwell cone clutch but noticed that many don't use a clutch at all (they use electric down which I only use for short adjustments). I think my cone clutch is direct on... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
It is a "fairlead". A Panamalead is a fairlead to be used for the cables to the "mules" of the Panama Canal. For many ships, these are different fairleads than those used for mooring. |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I'm looking at the eye on the waterline at the bow. I would ask them to triple it with plates welded to each side and a good way in, past the turn of the bilge and welded against the stringer there.... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
The hull is vertical surface and thus the issue is minimal. @FunJohnson: This info was posted way back in this thread; only the table with specific values per color is new :thumb: |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Yes, that would be around the H8002 22% as well. If your boat is insulated then it doesn't matter much for heat in the winters in the cold climates... but my experience with light gray was on a... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Exactly! Good find that table, I couldn't find it a couple posts back. It shows that even light gray G1001 absorbs 52% of the radiation while pure white G8001 only absorbs 5%. I have Insignia... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
You will like the white for temperature. I once had very light grey decks like on the pictures on a steel boat and could not walk them. Stepped on the white superstructure and no problem, big... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Even the lightest of gray gives a lot of heat transfer compared to white. Awlgrip color insignia white is beautiful and cool. Egg shell white is only just bearable; anything darker is too hot. ... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Because I expect a blotted effect for large surfaces. The trick is to not get it too shiny I think, while for detailing like railings etc. this does work wonders. I believe it reacts with the... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
I have had exceptional results with this polish on bare, cast aluminium Bomar hatches. Well, they were powder coated, then got bare, then I polished with this stuff about 12 years ago and never... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Very cool pics SL! isn't it great to see such quality and precision work? :) The welds look good on the pics and I wonder what they do with them? Clean with acid like they do with stainless steel... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
You can't use any of these machines while underway so imo it is silly to buy a machine for underway use when that is impossible :) For wet weather: sure. Like I wrote before, we just wait for good... |

Re: Bestevaer 49ST
Seaworthy, you will not find a unit in that size and can be glad because they are troublesome even in full size frontloaders. We have lived with them since 2002 and nothing but trouble. The... |

Bestevaer 49ST
Davits? Don't confuse a hoist bar system with davits... they are opposites. I have only seen one way to improve on this and that is a flat aft deck to set a dinghy or two onto with a crane. Dashew... |

I forgot to mention the dorades... there's 15 of them and imo you must have them for ventilation during passage. |

Re: Bestevaer 49
I completely understand that you don't want to be dependent on the generator; I would not and I am not. The trick is to have backups for all primary systems. We consider the watermaker and stove... |
