Re: a/c breaker keeps tripping

If it runs for 10 minutes it sounds like it’s overheating. One cause could be build up of barnacles and growth in the coils. A good flush with barnacle buster May solve your problem.

Another...

Re: What is a Ton in Boat Weight

Sorry you are confused…

If you are referring to tonnage in your USCG Documentation it is a measure of carrying capacity volume. Do not confuse this with the weight of your boat.

Re: Radar is now redundant ?

I consider radar essential. If you are ever in reduced visibility conditions it could save your boat or your life or someone else’s.

At night or in fog you can see unlit obstruction and unlit...

Re: Transition plan to liveaboard and cruising

Suggest you spend time chartering a sailing catamaran in Bahamas, Caribbean, etc.
prior to a major commitment.

Known a few people whose dreams far exceed their reality and decide after the actual...

Re: How Did You Decide?

First.. Good Luck

1. What do you want to do with a boat? Coastal Cruising? Bahamas? Caribbean? The greater the capability the greater the costs.

2. How much comfort do you want (Usually age...

Re: Warning: Dominican Republic

Do not blame Cap Cana Marina for your ignorance about DR requirements.

Cap Cana is a wonderful Marina where I spent 7 weeks in Covid lockdown. Certainly was not a hardship. We found friendships...

Re: Surface Air Supply (Hookah) Systems

Get a scuba tank tank or two and have them filled at a dive shop.

An 80 cu ft tank will last an hour or two used in conjunction with a hookah and regulator.

Don’t use a Rube Goldberg setup and...

Re: 1 Minute = 60 Seconds?

On the chart the 25’ represents minutes of longitude on the horizontal axis. Each mark underlined to the right represents 1/10 of a minute of longitude.

Re: For all promoting flare guns for self defense

I had an all metal East German flare gun with an insert for a 410 gauge shotgun shell.

I also had 12 gauge insert but using a 12 gauge shell in a hand flare gun would no doubt break a wrist.

Re: Looking for opinions on first boat size

I had a 17’ SeaRay and 25 years later bought a 64’ Grand Banks for me and my wife. We cruised for almost 5 years throughout the Bahamas and Caribbean.

64’ was not too big for the two of us to...

Re: To dive or not to dive?

We do not routinely dive our anchor. If the water is nice why not enjoy a dip and look at your anchor whiled at it.

Charts will most likely tell you the bottom. If the water is fairly clear and...

Re: Removed check valve from bilge pump- now it won't stop running

Your cure of removing check valve is worse than symptom. Put the check valve back in before you sink your boat.

Re: Can I use Sterling External Regulator with standard 115A alternator charging lith

Word of caution... If you use an external regulator be sure your alternator is not internally regulated. Use one or the other, not both concurrently.

Re: Where/When to set anchor alarm

Wow...I thought everyone set their anchor alarm on the anchors position. The anchor point is the pivotal point around which the length of the rode will rotate and circumscribe a circle.

If the...

Re: How do cruisers pay for boats?

Paulihno...

I bought a $1 million plus boat. Working through a broker we found financing at 75% of surveyed value.

Just for info consider annual boat costs about 10% of boat value.

Re: Step-down Adapter 240v 50a >>> 120v 30a

Don’t worry about the amperage. A 10 amp sander will only draw 10 amps even if plugged into a 30 or 50 amp service. For example, a 50 amp service is only the max rated amperage.

The 240/120 volts...
