Re: Fire on Board - I know you know, but....

Long time recommendation for linseed rags is tightly sealed metallic container without too much excess space; no O2, no fire.

Re: Mast - Is this repairable?

The mast step and the mast do not match, that pin appears to not secure the mast, unless there is tang at mast foot we cannot see. Lower carefully, make a template of the mast foot and have a mast...

Re: Under 29 Foot But Can Stand Up In The Cabin

I have a Grampian 26 in my hayfield on a steel cradle, good shape but needs clean up. 3'9" draft good sails, good furler. But I'm in NS, PM me if interested. I'd like to see it find a good owner....

Re: Can someone please please help me

The response from Shrew is accurate, the flame sensor shuts off fuel supply if ignition has failed. Very important protection. So troubleshoot fuel and possibly the flame sensor.

Good luck, DR

Re: Remove a mast without a crane?

I doubt a CF mast that size weights 100#s, I have a 30' aluminum mast in my hayfield with furler attached and I can put it on my shoulder and I'm not a big, young man. Irrelevant. It's the leverage...

Re: Building a sailing dinghy

Suggest you look at Nutshell pram from Wooden Boat. very stable, easy to row, tows well. An outboard would have to be offset but a lovely craft.

Re: Pulling new halyard using existing one

I have used seizing and stitching but the easy way is electrical heat shink tubing. Flexible and you cannot pull it aoart.

Re: Messenger Line to Halyard Join

I have sewn and whipped lines to reeve them thru mast but next time (coming up) I will use heat shrink tubing as well.

Good luck, fair winds.

Re: Stiff Gear Shifter (newbie in middle of nowhere...photos atached)

If you free up the cable with WD40, follow with a lubricant, which WD40 is not. Won't matter so much if you replace the cable soon.

Best of luck, fair winds, DR

Re: Getting a mast on a boat WITHOUT a real crane

I run a small electric utility in Nova Scotia. Been a keel boat sailor for 30+ years. Don't know everything. Tree trucks are not designed to lift heavy weights, nor are scissor lifts and...

Re: When are nautical terms better, and when are they not?

Good chat. One of my exs accused me of obfuscation for using nautical terms. It's pennant, full stop.

Re: How much could be the fair price of this Albin Vega?

Vega's a good boat, I know someone who crossed the pond on one, and as said, a young gent circumnavigated NA in one.

I have a Grampian 26 in my hayfield I'd sell for $2500 CD. It's very sound,...

Re: Yacht for sale with rusty keel bolts - walk away?

There are keel bolts, and studs cast into keels. Studs have washers and nuts visible and threaded rod (stud) extending above the nuts. There are lead keels, iron keels, and possibly other bolt up...

Re: Nervous About North Channel Canada

Black bears are shy creatures, unless you get between a sow and cubs, almost always no problem. There are no grizzlies in that area.

When you butter toast.you obviously change the balance of the matrix. Heavy side tends to tip down. You just have to be fast.

Re: Boat Speed problems with my Hunter 386

Greg's comments are sensible. We have an older Hunter Legend 37 and it does at least that speed. We get 5.5 or so on SOG. Towing a dingy is good (bad?) for about -.5KT, leaving the tranny in neutral...

Re: LOWER HORSE POWER

Thanks, we'll go with the 30 HP Yanmar and report how it does. If the mechanic will certify it will turn up to rating & compression proves good.

Thanks again, Don

LOWER HORSE POWER

We have a Hunter Legend 37, 14,900# light ship, probably 17,000+ as is. Just blew the original Yanmar 3HM35F diesel (34 HP), have available a 30 HP Yanmar as replacement. I believe our prop is 16"...

Re: Beneteau Idylle 13.5 Keel Issues?

i have read of keelbolt issues with Idylles. Looked at an 11.5 a few years ago, didn't buy it. Keelbolts - and they were bolts, not SS threaded rod cast into the keel - were rusted and I wasn't sure...

Re: Best knot to attach single line to jib clew?

Clove hitch - I used one for years on a 135% genoa, never slipped, doesn't snag like one or two bowlines or a hard clevis. If our sailmaker hadn't cut the new sheets for the newer boat I'd still be...

Re: Am I being cheap and/or stupid?

Extra long shaft 4 stroke outboards with high thrust props are available, virtually all would have alternators & are good on fuel for a gas engine. We had one (9.9 Yamaha) on a Grampian 26 (about...
