Thanks for that. Best to face the facts of the situation. If you hear of anything any reasonable 10-11 m pens becoming available on on the sea side please let me know.

    Hi Wotname!

I moved to Perth from Melbourne and am shocked about the scarsity of pens, and how much it costs just to be able to rent one. Most marinas don't even bother with waiting lists! I need to find a pen somewhere between Mandurah and Mindarie so I can make an offer on a cruiser (approx 10 -11 m). I was looking into moorings, but even these are expensive and the ones availabe in Mangles bay seem very unprotected. Moorings on the river have the mast lowering problem for sea access. New moorings require proof of ownership to apply to DIP.

One of the boats I am looking at comes with a pen, but its not my first choice and a bit outside my budget.

I've called the yacht clubs and the situation is the same - plus they require you to join before getting on their oen waiting list.

Any ray of light and hope would be appreciated - I'm ready to buy but need a place to tie up. Any suggestions?

Thanks for reading, pls let me know if you know any avenues I haven't explored.

    Mike/Rigel
