    Hi Nigel,
I found an ancient post of yours about barbed valves that you put into fenders to be able to blow them up. You couldn't post the brand of these valves for obvious reasons; could you please send me a private message telling me what exactly these valves were and where you got them from?
We have six tube-like fenders which are still in good nick but just need a bit of air in them, but they are completely sealed and cannot be re-inflated. We thought your barbed valves sound just the thing to give new life to them - and save us a lot of money!
    Many thanks for your help.
    Best wishes,
    Caroline

    Hi Nigel,
Thanks for the welcome to the forum. Are there many sailors in Manchester? I recently joined Manchester Cruising Association to meet like minded people - are you a member? Last couple of weekends I've been exploring to possibilities of sailing from North Wales. We went to Bangor, Conwy, Beaumaris and Caenarvon - all absolutely gorgeous. With lots of marinas, boat years (went to have a look round Dickie's). I guess this must be your home waters and all very familiar.
What's it like keeping your boat in Liverpool?

Too many questions, sorry! - if you drink beer, maybe we could meet for a drink one evening.

    Best wishes,

    Mike

Nigel, thanks for the information. I will contact z spars. I also had the direction problem on the furling drum. As a temp. Fix I lashed a large shackle to the outside of the guard and ran the furling line through it. Sorted for now, until I change the gunny.
Re the halyard wrap - also have problems if halyard too slack or too tight. Lashed another shackle between the uppers at the upper roller, with the halyard run through it. This stops the halyard rotating. Would be interested to know what diverters you fitted for a more permanent fix.
Recently picked up a rope around the prop which managed to wind the prop shaft out an inch severing the 4 engine mounts... Looking to replace with alternative types as I found out that the standard yanmar mounts are not roll over proof. If one ever had a bad knock down, the last thing you would want is the engine coming free... Rgds pk

Nigel, I also have a 473, and am interested to know what prebend you have on your mast. Our mast is very straight, (approx 4 inch prebend) and the babystay snatches when going upwind, with problems using the roller reefing on the genoa - due to sag in the forestay. Do you know if there is a set up recommended for the 473 with performance mast? I have contacted agents for Beneteau but so far no one seems to be interested in supporting older boats... I even wrote to the designers, but did not even get a reply. Regards, PK

    Hi Nigel,
Went to the Delifonseca and was fab, very different..... this is after spending loads on the boat at Liverpool power boat, has a great supply for yachts totally unexpected so all in all very good day, pity we could not have seen you there would have made good birthday treat for me. How are things with you, have managed to survive the ice/cold at sea thing?

I must say, I'm not that good in the cold, joints seize up on me and can't get round the boat the same. Keep warm Nigel, hope you win the battle with the ice, watch your footing....
