I have to agree with the engine revs thing on bikes at least for sure my ducati certainly did a lot for the pillion at 6500 -7000 rpm worked everytime

as for having the engine on, Yes, it makes an interesting difference. I have a 3-cyl and they're not as "balanced" as the diesels with even #of cyl. Motor sailing in calms can be pretty, uhm, fun.
