Don, you are a culinary disaster area.

If one burns the toast one puts on plenty of Vegemite and the consumer does not notice the smouldering charcoal. Aussie mothers have lived by it for decades.

OK so it has been one of those days...

As the 'font of all knowledge' stated Marmite is stronger tasting than Vegemite...

So real men must eat Marmite on their engine room toast....

And because it has been one of those days I can report that the turbo on my M80T does run hot enough to make toast. AND the engine room blower is good for removing the burnt toast smell afterwards.
But it did take about an hour at 3000rpm.. yes i said one of THOSE days..

But the toast was English and rather curved.



But the curry does smell good that cooked beside it.

Hmmm... old sail cloth might be OK for those who need to eat soft foods - perhaps due to rotted gums and scurvy etc but real sailor men just gobble up the old dried leather ripped off the mast hounds and leave the vegemite for the officers.

Like the thread idea, but one thing. I have been here since 1974 and my lady since 1969 and neither of us have heard the term "Brevilles" used for toasters as a general term. Is this a state thing, or a city thing? Not trying to nit pick, just interested because terms do tend to be parochial sometimes, like pie floater. Now that should get some non Aussie folks interested, "Pie floater?"

Now I am confused even more, it's not hard I know. You are referring to a "Breville" as the result of being in the Breville not the Breville itself. No problem at all with that one. But, and there is always a but is there not? I have never heard those referred to as Brevilles either. Toastie, yes, toasted sarny, yes, jaffles even if you wanted to be posh but wrong.

Wish I had not started this now. The good thing is not many would know what we are even talking about.

Mate, every single person I know refers to "filled sandwiches toasted in a Breville-type sandwich toaster' as - "Brevilles".

The rest of the world calls them "toasties"....

But you're right, calling them jaffles is wrong, as SWL demonstrated with the pic of her jaffle iron. Toasted sarnie is an acceptable alternative.

As I understand it, Breville basically took the jaffle iron concept, electrified it, and marketed it.....very, very, well....

In every student household I ever lived in, the cry of "Who wants a Breville?" was followed by a stampede to the kitchen....

Although, it was often preceded by "Who's hidden the f*****n Breville?" lol
