That's the only way we have found foreigners tolerate vegemite LOL .
Some have even been known to enjoy it served this way .

SWL Tortilla recipe

Not quite a conventional one, but very boat friendly.

2 cups flour
1 heaped teaspoon baking powder
Big pinch salt
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (liquid gold here in Greece!)
1/2 cup water approx

Sift dry ingredients.
Gently stir in oil and water (overmixing toughens them) until a soft ball forms.
Let sit for 10 minutes (something to do with relaxing them before hitting them with the heat of the frypan).

Form in 10 balls.
Heat non stick frypan
Reach for a wine bottle (no, not to drink, just to use as a rolling pin LOL)
Roll each one out as the previous is cooking.
They take a minute or so on each side.

PS Fabulous warm with vegemite .

Now why would you want to ruin a perfectly good tortilla that way?
LOL

Thanks for the recipe, I will give it a try. I made a killer batch of chili verde yesterday, all that was lacking were the tortillas!

It's an initiation thing, to become an Aussie citizen now you must be able to lick a loaded spoonful clean and smile...

Then kiss a football and eat a meat pie or a floater....

Why liquid gold in Greece? Is there not heaps of olive oil available???

Yes, but the best of it way surpasses any other premium olive oils I have tasted. Here is Crete I can get first pressed extra virgin olive oil with an acidity of only 0.2 or 0.3%. It is pale greeny gold in colour, faintly lemony in taste and simply fit for the gods (and goddesses LOL). I don't think the good Greek stuff gets exported much, so it is not well known.

It is liquid gold in value if not in cost .

PS Don't even think of substituting any old crappy oil in this recipe

Re: The Most Basic Essential Foods

Ah sorry the way you wrote it appeared as though it was difficult to buy.

Agree Olive oil here also is so totally different from Aussie supermarket stuff, even the Grandkids when they visited wanted crusty bread and oil to dip it in, stunning flavours!!!

Oh, yum, that has my mouth watering! I love chilli. My favourite dark chocolate is one infused with chilli (first tasted in picturesque Queenstown in NZ). A match made in heaven . Lindt make a good version.

Back to the subject of tortillas, I find they improve if you wrap them in a couple of sheets of paper towel and place them in a plastic bag for a few hours. The texture is then absolutely perfect .

It is an excellent boat recipe as the ingredients are always on hand and have a long life (unlike the shortening used in conventional tortillas). I make bread regularly, but these are great for a change.

Re: The Most Basic Essential Foods

Will try it tomorrow, we find wraps are the most convenient sailing lunches, full of salad, ham vegemite etc.

We use Tortilla bases for wraps and pizzas the toasted thin base is excellent!

Re: The Most Basic Essential Foods

Is cigeutera much of an issue there or just stick to smaller fish as a rule?

you won't get cigeutera from pelegic fish like tuna ar dorado as they don't feed off the reef.
