Re: Radio Checks

i do n0t do radio checking calls--i will hail a friend on the hailing channel accepted in my region and that individual will allow me to know if i am audible. usually without my having to ask.

Re: Radio Checks

If ya ck your radio with a Meter once in a while, you will know it works !! I have always hailed a visable boat if I needed a ck, but have never transmitted a radio ck on 16 !! If nothing else go thru the channels till ya hear someone and hail them !! to ask ! most of us will answer if you break on the channel we are on! justa thought

Re: Radio Checks

In some parts of the ocean, channel 16 seems to be the only one consistently monitored. But I agree with you- hearing radio checks and the coast guard trying to track down which widget stuffed his mike in a pocket and has it on- that is irritating.
BTW- if the coast guard can hear me from 20 miles offshore that is a good enough radio check for me.

Re: Radio Checks

Irritating? In the BVI, every 10 minutes it is a restaurant reservation or a cab hail or a fisherman talking about last nights "pum pum" on 16 !
