West Marine told me they will price match all but craigslist and ebay! Lol...why not craigslist? I walk in the door the manager says, "Here she is.... the price match queen"

Also....if wm has a coupon you can price match and use the coupon on top of it....i got a new $150.00 W&P Brass oil lamp for $109.00 including tax doing that

Re: Best Places to Buy Stuff?

Amazon.com
WM
MarinepartsExpress.com (Volvo parts)
Boatzincs.com
Defender
Jamestown

It is a real shame but West Marines are becoming real hit or miss. Some cater to powerboaters and don't have a complete stock of stuff. I have been to several that offer to "ship in" a part form the warehouse - In that case I can shop online and not come back.

The retail outlet is going to disappear and then we won't be able to get our hands on stuff for the tactile feel.

I do 99% of my shopping online.

Re: Best Places to Buy Stuff?

In addition to the above, I have used Boating equipment, sailing gear, sailboat hardware, marine electronics, safety gear, foul weather gear and more. at Marine.com with excellent results; they tend to be a bit lower than Defender when shipping is included, and they gave me great service when needed.

For electronics, and particularly N2K things, I have had good luck with Marine Technology | Blue Heron Marine Electronics

Across from my marina is a local chandler, with good prices (better than WM and easier to get to). There is another chandler a few miles away that often has even better prices. Both of these have substantial used inventory as well. For items under $100 or so the local guys get my business; larger items I will shop the local guys, WM, and online with a preference for local if the price is close. I will pay more if someone provides useful advice or shows me a product i haven't found on my own.

Re: Best Places to Buy Stuff?

Here's our list of favorites. All have been great to deal with.

As mentioned above- Defender (<3!) and West Marine

Transatlantic Diesel- for engine parts

Landfall navigation - watch for their sales for foulies, charts and safety gear

Fisheries Supply - for stuff. Lots of stuff.

Parts4Engines- for parts. Ummm for your engine

Don't have a rec for sails yet but that is next on the agenda....

I told my true Defender story on Sail Owners, and Defender got me banned. Should I try that again here? Pass. Not what you know, it is who you know.

"I love Defender" ( still waiting on multiple times back order). I ordered multiple parts. That I can't use till all the parts come in. So what to do? Use the parts in some other way to get my money out of them. My Koi loves Defender.

Please don't ban me! Lol

I will use that! Thanks. Tired of the runarounds. West is a good place to do business. They are some times higher price.

Re: Best Places to Buy Stuff?

I look on ebay first.

Often times I'll find someone that has the brand new gadget/part I need, bought it for a boat project and never used.

Which is (partly) why brick & mortar chandlers are disappearing, and usually have higher prices.

Re: Best Places to Buy Stuff?

[QUOTE=belizesailor;1036724]Oh, I have loads of experience abusing my cash flow for boat stuff! Here's my 2c:

"Sailorman" in Ft. Lauderdale, an amazing selection of used gear -- great fun to go wander around and you can also order on-line. Has been "improved" in recent years so has lost some of its funky charm.

I concur. I used to be the General Manager of Sailorman back in the early 80’s. Also look at The Marine Connection in Ft. Pierce, Florida. They have an even larger new and used inventory then Sailorman. If you are looking for marine pumps the best prices anywhere can be found at iMarine Inc.

Sailorman: Marine Supplies and Equipment | Boat Supplies | Marine Store Ask for John Peets. He’s forgotten more than most people know about boats. Tell them Rich from Great Escape Yachts sent you.

The Marine Connection: Marine Connection Liquidators Ask for Jake (manager) or Ronnie the owner. Tell them I sent you.

iMarine Inc. : iMarine | "Your Marine Pump and Water Systems Specialists" Ask for Whit or Rich
