And don't forget Camping World ! they have a great many things that work well on a boat ! things like folding bikes at almost half the price of marine stores and galley stuff to FIT your marine stoves! even TV satelite stuff ! We just got some oven things that look like they are gonna be great ! Just sayin ya need to look a little further afield for some things !! WM is not the Only place LOL

It is a real shame but West Marines are becoming real hit or miss. Some cater to powerboaters and don't have a complete stock of stuff. I have been to several that offer to "ship in" a part form the warehouse - In that case I can shop online and not come back.

The retail outlet is going to disappear and then we won't be able to get our hands on stuff for the tactile feel.

I do 99% of my shopping online.

In addition to the above, I have used Boating equipment, sailing gear, sailboat hardware, marine electronics, safety gear, foul weather gear and more. at Marine.com with excellent results; they tend to be a bit lower than Defender when shipping is included, and they gave me great service when needed.

For electronics, and particularly N2K things, I have had good luck with Marine Technology | Blue Heron Marine Electronics

Across from my marina is a local chandler, with good prices (better than WM and easier to get to). There is another chandler a few miles away that often has even better prices. Both of these have substantial used inventory as well. For items under $100 or so the local guys get my business; larger items I will shop the local guys, WM, and online with a preference for local if the price is close. I will pay more if someone provides useful advice or shows me a product i haven't found on my own.

I told my true Defender story on Sail Owners, and Defender got me banned. Should I try that again here? Pass. Not what you know, it is who you know.

"I love Defender" ( still waiting on multiple times back order). I ordered multiple parts. That I can't use till all the parts come in. So what to do? Use the parts in some other way to get my money out of them. My Koi loves Defender.

Often times I'll find someone that has the brand new gadget/part I need, bought it for a boat project and never used.
