Greetings from South Africa

My name is Carel and Im a 52 year old sailing nut - started out with a Hobie , moved on to a Holiday 23 and now the owner of a Baltic 42 called Cool Runnings .
Also acquired a Theta 26 on the cheap for some inland sailing when the sea is too far .
Based in Pretoria and my beloved Baltic is at the RCYC in Capetown .

So beginning of the year we made the plunge and decided its time to cross an ocean - so competed in the 2014 Cape to Rio race . completed it in 26 days - what a life changing experience - sitting on a boat with the spinnaker up doing 8 knots - 2000 Nm form Capetown, 1000 Nm from any where else and seeing no one else just the blue ocean --

So in prep for our next adventure - the St Helena Race at the end of the year - Yes its like doing a marathon and then do a half marathon I know - but that is how life happens .
In doing my trusty Perkins 4108 over I stumbled onto this forum - so looking forward to some good sailing bantering

trawling the interwebs for Perkins parts - found some that hold promise but they don't reply on e-mails - any suggestion /reccomendation on who to try ?

I don't know. Never had a Perkins.

Hi Carel I was the skipper of Witchdoctor for a good 6-7 years, and had the perkins rebuilt at some perkins agent in Paarden island. sorry cannot remember name.good luck and good sailing on the st helena race.

She is a good old lady that has taken us to Rio and Back - bought het from Phil Googhe - I assume you were the original owner before Phill?- so now for the St Helena Gov Cup - at least the engine is in and working fine - no smoking and good power - as they say the preps part of the race - so working hard up front make the enjoyment of the race better . SO we currently in Simonstown at the FBYC - took the old lady arround cape point from RCYC - so the final mad dash before the start at 14:00 local time . For this who would like to follow the race we will have a blog running as well a tracker - hey the joys of modern sailing - internet available .

Hi carel, no,
i was Phil,s skipper, in Cape town. The boat was launched By Bill Lee, and lived in Port Elizabeth for many years. Then Phil Harvey From Harvey boat builders in Knysna took it offshore to the northern hemisphere for a year to escape paying tax. (the old days!!) When he got back Phil Gutche bought her and she was brought to Granger Bay.
.So I was her skipper from 1994 to 2001. Have fun on the St helena race.. go offshore..and pull the foot of the main out tight, an sheet in tight. lekker sailing, will follow your progress.
