Re: San Diego Sailor's Happy Hour

Sorry to flake but I'm sick as a dog. I'll spit up a bunch of phlegm to anyone who wants to come by and check on the authenticity of my excuse. Sorry bros.

Re: San Diego Sailor's Happy Hour

I suggest Southwestern Yacht Club, 2702 Qualtrough St., SD 92106. On the water, it's real, the folks there are cruisers, anglers and racers, not posers. The bar is great, with outside seating overlooking the bay. If you aren't a member of a yacht club, tell the bartender you are a friend of Roy Miles. It won't get you a free beer, but it will qualify you to order your favorite libation (ABC requirements) and shoot the breeze with serious cruising folks. Ask Lee at Downwind Marine what he thinks about this idea. Ask Pete at San Diego Marine Exchange about SWYC. Ask Greta or Ron at West Marine what they think about SWYC. In short, why hang at a backstreet bar where 5 to 10% of the crowd know what a lee shore or a chubasco are, when you can sit down and chew the fat with folks who have really been there and done that? Southwestern Yacht Club is where the wooden boats go to gam, where the Ha-Ha hangs before they depart, and where sailing folk actually mingle with other people who actually do stuff. Besides, in this economy, we would appreciate the income. And, we have the best selection of local craft beer and ale and wine of any place I know, but then I'm totally biased. I'm the guy in the black overalls and the white beard somewhere near the bar.

Ha! Thanks, Roy. I will see you there. Maybe next month we can sponsor a local sailors HH with you at SW. This what it is all about. Diversity and experience.

Re: San Diego Sailor's Happy Hour

Hope to see you, too. The easiest way to find SWYC is MapQuest, since it's in a secluded corner of Shelter Island in Point Loma. It has been called the friendliest cruiser's bar on the West Coast.

Wow, these places bring back some memories! I used to live in a tiny studio on Scott St when I lived in SD, and we would always go to Captain's Quarters, Club Marina, or Lucy's in OB. Free pool and semi-live entertainment- gotta love it.

April is here! Let's try a new venue, eh?! I like the Capt's idea of visiting the Yacht Clubs. Where to first?

Re: San Diego Sailor's Happy Hour

We're in wherever.

Our question is when? We already have childcare lined up for Thurs, 4/5 if that works for everyone else.

Re: San Diego Sailor's Happy Hour

I offer for consideration, Southwestern Yacht Club, 2702 Qualtrough St., San Diego 92106. Use Google maps for directions. Friday, April 5th, beginning at 5 PM. I will be there in my usual work garb, soiled black overalls, to set the standard of dress. Just tell the bartender you are a friend of Roy and all will be well. Hope to see you there!

Outstanding! I'm also good for Friday and SWYC sounds perfect. I'll motor over in my tender.

A, will that work for you guys?

Cheers
Mike.

Re: San Diego Sailor's Happy Hour

I sent off some private messages. I'll invite some non-cf folks who are deeply into cruising. This will be cool.

I'm in, my boat was tied up there when I bought it. It's a pretty cool spot.
