We just picked up a 2006-260 Sundancer, single engine (138hrs) with a goal of spending 4-5 weeks in the Bahamas. Our plan is to improve our skills and experience here in the great lakes and then take on the challenge of the gulf crossing. So, for the next while i will be watching the posts and connecting with you people with that goal in mind. Any advice is gold!

I assume you're speaking of crossing the Gulf Stream and not the Gulf of Mexico coming from the Texas coast. Is this a trailerable boat? Are you planning on coming out the Hudson? ....down to Florida coastal cruising and then crossing? ....the long offshore route? We often cruse the Bahamas, but cross with the stream heading northeast from Lauderdale to West End, but then we always choose the easy ride in the best of weather. Thanks for the reply, wow i love this service!
We will be trailering the boat from North Bay, Ontario to Fort Lauderdale then cross to the West End. When the time comes is this the place to locate others who are putting a flotilla together? As for waiting 3 years to make this all come together, i doubt i will be able to wait that long.

Absolutely my route! We have crossed from Lauderdale to Indian Cay often. We ususally anchor in Lake Sylvia and then take a morning exit from Port Everglades to West End at about 3 pm. With your waterline you will likely arrive at 5 pm, but a casual ride if yoiu are patient for the favorable winds. From West Palm Beach you usually have to make 120 degrees to reach West End , but from Fort Lauderdale you can do well with about 90 degrees. It's all a matter of choosing the right weather.
