Florida to Bahamas

This is our first trip over. Know of anyone headed that way approx. Dec. 22 ? Any routes more favorable than others. We'll be Lantana. Could use all the help we can get. Thanks, Diane

There'll be lots of boats down in Miami by then waiting for windows. We'll be in the water here in Fernandina next week and will start heading down. Most of the boats anchor off South Beach or lower down in Biscayne Bay by No Name or Hurricane Hole. We'll probably be in what's known as the Publix anchorage off South Beach. It's by the Collins Canal and you can dink up to Publix, hence the name. The cops will visit you there but don't really hassle anyone. We're on a Ben 393 "Breathless". What's your boat's name? Quite often we stop at Lantana and anchor on the west side south of the bridge.

As far as routes go we usually go from Miami to North Rock, across the Bank and down to Nassau where we check in, about 30 hours.

We have a 45' Sea Ray EB "Ocean Sky". We'll be docking at Loggerhead S. Lantana & had hoped to leave from there---unless Miami is better. Sounds like plenty of boats heading over then. Ought to be a good time.

As an alternative to Miami-Bimini-Nassau, consider Miami-Memory Rock-Green Turtle. You can leave while the wind is still SE, and if you're tired or the weather is tough you can stop at Great Sail (25 hours), or continue on to Green Turtle (35 hours).

Immigration and Customs is just one lady, and she is super nice. Then wait for the next northerly, and it is downhill to wherever you want to be in the Bahamas.
