Finally I joined the CF community after enjoying the benefit of the experience and knowledge you have contributed to this great site for the last few years.

I am Paul Dewhirst the owner of 1340 Schionning sailing catamaran Apsara, launched at Port Stephens NSW in 2011 and currently lying at Phuket Thailand.

I am retired and as such spend most of my time with Apsara, living aboard during the season and keeping up the maintenance myself all year round.

I hope I can contribute some of my experiences to CF since it has been such a valuable resource for me cruising from Australia and around the Andaman sea.

Welcome to the community! A 44' catamaran must give you some huge space. Did you build the 1340x from one of the design kits? 'looking forward to hearing more about your boat,- maybe some photos....

@Waterway Guide,@Boatman 61, @Celestial Sailor thank you for the greetings. Yes we have a lot of space and a comfortable fit out but she's not too big to sail or manoeuvre in the Marina for two handed sailing with my wife.

@Deckofficer we had a few 170nm days up the East Coast of Australia in trade winds, I recall a 176nm day across the Gulf of Carpanteria but I rarely push through the night, electing to double reef or run on head sail only since I am normally short handed offshore.

@CaptForce, yes I started from the standard Schionning Wilderness 1340X. The build location was opposite the Schionning design shop, now closed, so the plans were completed with an offshore cruising brief. The standard boat construction material is ATL composites laser cut end grain balsa sheets and west system epoxy with honey comb paper core furniture. Other major additions are Yanmar power, Mase genset, Seldon rig, North sails, Harken winches and deck gear and still in the within the design weight budget!

I'll try to put up some interesting photos when I get to my PC.
