Hi, New To Sailing, Advice Neede

Hey,

I'm new to sailing, apart from my mum taking me when I was about 5 on sailing trips, otherwise I've never had any experience sailing, however it has always been something I'd love to get into an gain experience at. But I just don't know where to begin. I'm currently living near Mt Gambier but go to Sydney in June/July and I'm rather keen to sail there wether it be on my own or as part of a crew. I've always taken on new challenges and live for adventure.
I would greatly appreciate any advice or views regarding this, such as equipment needed, costs, if it's even possible for someone with no experience, that sort of thing.

Many thanks

Tom

Look for a sailing club where you can take lessons, then charter their boats. This will give you a chance to try different sizes to see what you enjoy.

Or do what we did: buy a boat, then take lessons. Then buy a bigger boat, get someone to help you put it in the slip, then take more lessons to handle it more confidently...

You can always get a small sailboat and learn how to sail it well, and then probably sell it for what you pay for it. Learning to sail in a small boat is a great way to develop the skills that transfer to larger craft.
