Hello from the desert!

Hello from Tucson, AZ!

I'm really bad at introducing myself, but I'll give it a shot. I'm 32 years old, and I absolutely love sailing. I'm currently landlocked in Tucson, AZ, but I am originally from Florida. I have lived in Orlando, Fl, Jax, Fl, Akron, OH, Islamorada, Fl, Port Fourchon LA, and Slidell, LA. I have a 50T masters with a towing endorsement. I'm also a PADI Divemaster and a MSF RiderCoach (motorcycle riding instructor).

I worked as a captain of small dive boats and divemaster for Florida Sea Base in Islamorada for a while, I also worked as a Captain for Sea Tow in Jacksonville briefly, and I worked on the Deepwater Horizon clean up in Louisiana. I was a DM (briefly) on a 60ft gaff rigged steel hulled schooner in the Keys, and I did a lot of day-sailing with friends while I lived in Islamorada. I couldn't get enough time on the water under sail.

I'm currently living in Tucson, AZ and working in HR, I formerly worked in law enforcement. I loved working on the water, and being on and around boats. I would like to retire onto a boat someday, and do some cruising until I get too old.

I got married in May, and my wife and I were planning on doing a bare boat charter for our honeymoon. We just finished an ASA keelboat class, and we are planning to do some overnight charters and day sails here, in Cali, and maybe in MX. We are working up to a week long bareboat charter for our honeymoon. We are thinking about chartering out of La Paz.

That's about as good an introduction as I can come up with, here's a couple pics to put a "face" to the "name":

Re: Hello from the desert!

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Not sure I'll be a very prolific poster, I'm here to learn, and I've got a lot of learning to do. Not sure how much I can contribute until I get a little more sail time under my belt.

Re: Hello from the desert!

I lived in the deserts of Arabia for eleven years before starting my circumnavigation. Nothing wrong with living in the desert.

Re: Hello from the desert!

I saw the desert for the first time about 5 years ago and look forward to returning. Not sure if I would enjoy the summers, but the winters are great for hiking the many trails around Tucson. I lived aboard my sailboat on the east coast for a number of years and I found the desert and the mountains soothing to the soul much like sailing. There is lot of good information on this forum, but take all with a grain of salt. Welcome..

Congrats on the Nuptials! And of course welcome aboard, to both you & the Mrs.
I think we're out of donuts, but pour yourself a cup of coffee or egg nog, & come on over by the fire to share some tales.

Welcome aboard, PhiSig! Do you think you might make it up to Lake Pleasant for the Arizona YC Birthday Regatta in Janaury (Jan. 16-18/MLK weekend)? It usually get a few Tucson folks. Pat
