Hello from the Oregon High Desert

I am as old and crusty as Popeye, a former debt-ridden owner of several progressively larger sailboats who finally came to the conclusion "rent don't buy." Especially when the ocean is 200 miles (325km) distant. I am joining this forum as a serial charterer who is always on the lookout for new places and ideas
p.s. "Merdeka" is a Malay word for "freedom", the name given thirty tears ago to a Baba 30 cutter that was my favorite boat.

Greetings

You could purchase progressively smaller sailboats, and visit the beautiful high mountain lakes in your area (I'm assuming you are in or near Bend). Especially if you enjoy camping, I can't think of a more pristine area to be on the water.

Greetings

You're right, Bend area. We did have a smaller trailerable for a while, but the problem here in the summer is that there is just too many fun things to do, including kayaking. We ski in winter and try to save our water adventures, diving and sailing, for the shoulder seasons. But your right, the lakes are beautiful.

Aloha and welcome aboard!
Good to have you here. We visited the high desert museum there near Bend a couple years ago and were very impressed.
Originally I'm a Salem kid who left after HS grad in '63. Still visit family there from time to time.
regards,
