Hello, from Oriental, NC!

I retired, bought a sailboat, and moved to Oriental, NC, six years ago. My longest "cruise" to date was a two-day sail (without engine) to Okracoke with my son and two days back to Oriental. I have to say sailing into Silver Lake Harbor after dark raised my blood pressure a bit. Now I have a Beta 14 diesel. Our next cruise is planned for this summer to Cape Lookout.

Because my wife Betsy is not very fond of sailing, I am adding equipment for single-handing--automatic inflatable vest, harness, lazy Jacks, downhauls, etc. However, I still cannot get in/out of my slip with a cross wind alone.

Hello & welcome, We pass through Oriental twice a year,-'enjoy your town and your cruising area. We usually anchor inside the breakwater and then take the town dock for a day or two. 'fine looking Stone Horse. I've always admired them , 'take care and joy, Aythya crew

Welcome aboard. There is a local internet sailing group in North Carolina, www.ncsail.org, look at the "forum" there. We go out to Cape Lookout and Ocracoke a few times a year as a group. We do a trip in June called the Flamingo Run and one in October, "Pirates". Our boat is at Point Marina in Whortonsville but I've got to work in Raleigh to collect boat units.

Welcome HDC. There are a lot of forum members from the Oriental area. We're also at the Point Marina in Whortonsville. The Point may be the best represented marina on the forum. I know at least 5 boats are represented here. Not bad for a marina with only about 35 boats. I know a bunch of the NCsail group are looking to sail to Manteo this spring. The plan is to take the outside route through the sound rather than the ICW. I'm headed down to Oriental today, what marina are you in?
