Greetings from Oriental, NC

Hi everyone,
I joined Cruisersforum today after a Google search on a specific topic turned up some great information.
I have retired for a while and am busy preparing my Westsail 42 Varua Ti'ama for cruising. Spent 8 weeks with my partner wandering north to Oriental from Savannah area this summer, putting together the wish list for making her ready (the boat, not the partner) for more extended adventures.
Currently on the hard at a DIY yard, attending to all those things you can't do in the water--servicing thru hulls, bottom job, zincs, prop/shaft/cutless bearing, etc.
Will contribute to the forum when/if I have any insights or useful information.
Fair winds!

Welcome Will!

What yard are you at? We are over at Northwest Creek Marina, in New Bern.

Thanks for the welcome. I'm at Sailcraft yard, been here since the 10th. Inspected and serviced all my older thru hulls-- 1 Wilcox Crittenden, 5 Groco SVs. Next: bottom job.
When we first arrived in the area a couple of months ago on our "summer vacation" we arrived at Oriental. Then took a jaunt up to New Bern, stayed at the Hotel marina right downtown for a couple of nights. Then out to Ocracoke for a week. Then back to Oriental for the current projects.

Welcome aboard, we're just a few miles north in Whortonsville, but have friends at the sailcraft marina/boatyard and know it well.

Captain Bill,
You're right, just 10 miles away. We anchored overnight at Broad Creek on our way to Ocracoke a few weeks ago.

We spent 5 unexpected days at Sailcraft this summer during our vacation - engine issues, Great folks. I may end up down there at the end of the season for a haul out etc.

After spending the summer getting to know our E37 around Oriental we will be doing a move up to Broad Creek at The BooneDocks. We have 4.5' draft, but will be on the end dock slip.
The charts look like it may be a bit harry getting in there.

Thanks for the welcome, Cliff, John, Blueayes
Spent the day prepping the port side for bottom paint job. Tired and sore. On to Starboard tomorrow! We anchored one night at the mouth of Broad Creek this summer on the way to Ocracoke, it was a bit hairy, as we draw 6'. The sunrise was nice!
Cheers
Will

Aloha and Welcome aboard!
Good to have you on the forum. Keep us updated on the progress. You've got a great boat just a bit big for my taste but very seaworthy.
regards,
