Re: Hello from New York City

Hi Natalie:

Lived aboard my boat at the Chelsea Piers for six years when I worked in New York. Great experience but, missed being able to jump over the side and go for a awim. Now sail out of the Port Jeff area. Why take the car to Manhasset Bay when you've got the Port Washington LIRR line that can take you there without having to deal with the traffic? I would ditch the car altogether. Save the $$$ and put it into the boat.

Re: Hello from New York City

Thanks to Hugo I got in touch with Mamaroneck Harbor Master and received a quick reply, what I have learned there is not a problem to get a permit for mooring and also in CT. I am very happy with opportunities.

Re: Hello from New York City

Great Natalie, happy it worked out.
Mamaroneck is a great town right on the harbor with good restaurants and services.
We sail there few times a year for dinner.
Water into harbor at low tide can be skinny.
Moorings in outer harbor will be bouncy, not like protected Manhasset Bay.
Come say hello as we are at Steppingstone Marina just west of Manhasset Bay
or just pick up a free guest mooring and enjoy our park. (launch ch 71)
Best,
Hugo

Re: Hello from New York City

Thanks for an invitation but I have nobody that I want to sail with as of now. I can stop by driving or if you know at Manhasset Bay you get guest moorings for free for two days.
I would be interested in meeting you.
Natalie

Have fun sailing!
I only have a 3000 mile commute, and only get to see my boat 1/2 of the year.

Something about you Americans won't let us Canadians stay for more than 6 months at a time. 'Tis a shame as tonight it's going down to 21F.

But we will be back up to the high 70's low 80's by the weekend.

Crazy, huh?

Many American sailors sail to Canada for good winds.

Hello Natalie! In Astoria myself. Feels odd welcoming you when you posted an introduction a few days before me, but welcome.

For what it is worth, I am keeping my boat in Brooklyn at Gateway Marina. Only a 40 minute drive, plus great wind I hear. Area around the marina, to put it bluntly, sucks, but I think I'll live.

Thank you for your compliments.

Hey Natalie, try Morris Yacht club in City Island. I recently moved there from the Hudson River since I was tired of fighting the wind/current (ebb tide + typical summer southerly == nasty chop.) Takes me 35 to 50 minutes from northern NJ, so your drive should be easier.

I agree City Island is a good place with plenty of amenities. but the Cross Bronx Expressway can be a killer of a good daysail any given day during the summer. Not so bad though if staying for the weekend. Great Kills would be good too if you do not mind the ferry ride and a bus or taxi to boat.
