Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Christiania.

Toivottavasti, merimies? Mita kuuluu.

We like to brag that Thunder Bay (home of the world-famous ‘Hoito’*), has, after Helsinki, the largest Finn population of any city in the world.

* Established in 1918, and housed in the bottom-floor of the historic Finnish Labour Temple, the Hoito restaurant has operated continuously for over 91 years, and is perhaps the oldest co-operatively owned and operated restaurant in Canada.

Hello Christiania,

Finland, Norway and Denmark are three places we plan to sail to when we finally cast off... what is the best times of the year to go between mainland Europe, say Rotterdam and the Nordics ?

Thanks

Hi Cristiania,

Welcome to Cruiser's Forum.

I also owned a 32' sailboat from Finland for many years, probably the favorite of all the boats I've owned, except of course for the one I have now.

My boat was a Lohi, which I believe has been out of production for many years.

Safe sailing.

Hi Christiania, good to see you on here.. welcome...
Had a couple of Swedish friends on a 29ft steel boat and four Finnish friends on a big old wooden fishing boat they'd converted.
Ran into them when I wintered in Agua Dulce, Spain in 97... they were a great laugh and we hung out a lot...at least once a week a gang of us would get an invite for a 'Sauna' on the fishing boat... they'd get us on board, shut all the hatches and boost the stove right up then break out the vodka... man what a combination...
not sure which used to hit my knees the hardest... the Sauna or the Vodka....
Sadly I cannot rember the name of the boat.. maybe I should start keeping a log...

Greetings. I make it to Pori from time to time to do some documentary videos at the Mantyluoto shipyards. I've never gotten to stay very long and check out the sailing though.
