Hello and Plan to Sail

Hello all,
Good day to every one and best wishes on what ever you are doing now.

I plan to buy aboat 5-10 years from today..dream dream here it come...monohull..CC..30-40ft"..sloop..
If USD become weaker the time may come sooner......

I am browsing the web every now and then...some boats look affordable, the problem is I am in Singapore...here is the questions that I need to gather to compute...anyway I am right now the 9 to 5 guy.. Appreciate all suggestion.

I plan to get a boat from US and put it to say Langkawi.

What is my best way to go around purchase the boat, as I have read some in CF on the protocol.
1) Go to check on site
2) Close deal..
3)It if wiser to buy the cheaper can get priced boat and re-fit in Asia or make the boat to it best before ship to Asia?
4) What else should I look for if buy boat from US and shop to Asia. Register and re-register the boat.
5) Other???
6) Finally based on USD50K boat, what would the cost balloon to if Landed in Langkawi.

All helm job must be secure before attend to this message....but a reply is a must.

Phuket shopping?

Having only virtually shopped for boats in Phuket it seems strange to buy a boat on the other side of the world and then to transport it to Malaysia with all that entails.

Some of the boats for sale in Phuket were seriously for sale and had the advantage that they had been sailed to Thailand on their own bottoms.

Are all the boats for sale in Phuket unsuitable?

I should said the choice is not that lucrative in this part of the world.
Of couse If run into any "dreamer", action should be taken.

I would agree with ooitn, Malaysia and Thailand may have some boats for sale, however if a specific boat is sought the chances are there will be very very few in Asia to compare.
However if one was looking for a specific, wll known, boat a trip along the Cheserpeaky Bayee would turn up a myriad.

So it would depend on if somoene wanted what was available, or something specific

Re: Hello and Plan to Sail

Hey Ooitn,
I like that you are in Sg. My wife is Singaporean and we are looking at getting back to Sg soon and my dream is to get a boat. i am a Canadian.
I read a couple of good sites on used boats and agree the used is the way to go.
Would really like to keep in touch and hear how you go in the search. I am boat-less and looking at getting my license very soon. I have put off this dream a bit too long, although I have spent my life in around boats and water.
Good luck to you and keep me posted.
Jeff
