World's Worst Husbands...

Another member of this Forum has PM'ed me insinuating that because I might not do the dishes that I, a dinki di Aussie, might be one of the world's worst husbands.

He's probably been deluded by this news item.

At first I thought this study was someones idea of humor.

There are some interesting stats starting on page 27.

My wife and I have our division of labor and some things we both do. Overall, the workload is about equal. We never fight about who has to do what. Who does what just makes sense.

For example, she does the money and the cooking because she is a better money manager and cook than I am. I do all the things outside of the house and all the repairs around the house. We pretty much split the cleaning and taking care of the animals. We also split doing the laundry although I have to admit she probably does a little more than I do.

Overall its pretty equitable and makes for a great relationship.

My ex wife had an interesting view on this subject:

I had to do all the work outside the house

I had to do at least half the work inside the house (frequently more)

I had to earn all the money

She had to spend at least 75% of the money

I was joking, because on my boat …we all sit down to pee!

I never know when my good friends in Oz, Europe or N.A complain about their wives, whether it is serious or just recreational, but they do all seem to have a similar tale about mixed messages from their wives.

Each to their own, but like on a boat, I believe there can only be one captain of a household.

Interestingly enough, in the Philippines, that is usually the wives’ mother-in-law.

My wife wont let me do laundry...I have ruined to many things.

She wont handel the money..she says she ruins to many things.

She likes to mow the lawn, rake leaves, and pull weeds...and will even gas up the mower.

As long as I clean up my mess in the kitchen or anywhere for that matter she prefers to do most everything else and have me out of the kitchen...but is pleased as punch when I pitch in if she is gone and things happen to get clean before she returns.

If its broke its my job to fix it...no matter what

If it needs replaced its In Gods hands as to when we get to replace it and she makes due without it untill then without a squabble.

Division of labour is good. It makes sense to do the jobs we are capable of just as long as the other person also knows how to do them too. That way, when one is ill or cant cope, the happy home doesnt fall apart.
It also means your not stuffed when the other person decides to run off with a younger prettier person.
Independence is the best thing since sliced bread.

my Ex-wife was like Talbot's Ex....my new wife is like my soul mate.
she has her master electricians license ....she has a 100 ton ticket.
and for most of the time on the job , i am employed by her....
it's really nice for a change not to bear the load all the time...

Yesterday I replaced the steering cables, and removed, cleaned and rebuilt all the sheaves.
Day before that, lifted out the bilge pumps, cleaned all the filters and replaced the hoses.
Day before that, did complete oil change and fuel filters, installed new oil gauge and sender.
A week ago, a friend hauled me up the mast, and I replaced the spreaders.
Took 2 weks in June, hauled out, sanded bottom and repainted. Liesurely!!
Getting ready to start refinishing my 1/2 acre or teak, which has weathered back to bare wood thru lack of time.

Six months ago, I was putting in at least 60 hrs a week running my Commercial glass and aluminum company, and going crazy with labor, scheduling behind other trades subcontractors and just trying to get material delivered here to Bermuda on time.

I voluntarily wound the company up, paid off my guys, took on a couple of small restaurant laundry contracts, which are quite lucrative.

My wife comes home to a clean house, a cooked meal (I am a pretty good chef) and she can put her feet up and relax.

I sleep better, and don't miss the rat-race at all.

Gotta go now-- getting the boat loaded for a night sail before we lose too much moonlight.
