What Kind of People Do Ya Meet on Forums?

Some of the best friends you could find. One of mine, whom everybody knows as Stillraining or Scott, has been letting me use his magnificent man-cave shop to do woodwork for Oh Joy. I was posting about how I need to get a bandsaw at the shop for finish fitment work and woke up to this email titled
Saturday is Christmas".

Hey I just bought you a band saw to use...I pick it up tomorrow night...lets get you both it and the jointer delivered up to your boat shed Saturday...

A huge variety of people. Sometimes though their online personality is quite different from how they are in person. I have been told this, in a good way..

When the CF went live in 2003, there were already a couple of very large Forums.
Fortunatelty, the CruisersForum was blessed with a wonderfully ecclectic blend of founding members.
- Folk with interesting & intelligent questions.
- Folk with well thought out ansers.
- Some really nice human beings.
And a few that were all 3 (above).

As the Administrator of CruisersForum, for a few years, I had some influence in how the character of the Forum developed. In those early years, I applied two oner-riding principles.
1. We would ALWAYS treat each other with personal respect.
2. We should value INFORMATION above fraternity.

Among the very first issues that came under management debate, when we appointed a number of Moderators, was fraternity. It was (RIGHTFULLY) pointed out to me that fraternity was one of the most important features of a successful on-line community (virtually eveyone but I, understood this).

I've since learned that SHAREING (information. opinion, philosophy, and just plain chit-chat) aswe do here, breeds friendship. There are many folk, on this board, with whom I feel a deep bond of kinship. They've earned my love, affectiuon and admiration; through their selfless contribution of information, effort, and human presence!

There's people on this Form, I've never met (& may never) in whom I'd trust my life!

As my my arthitic hands turn to agonizing claws, as I type in the dark (I'm a "sight" typist), I wish I had the fortitude to continue. Athough I don't; I DO have many unexpressed thoughts about the many contributions, many members of CF have made to my life.

THANKS EVERYONE, for being who you are, and for exposing some of that on the CF.

My thanks also, to the Moderators who selflessly give, that we all may enjoy.

Not so much Mods as just a damn good team all over Mr Stocking.

Even way down here at the bottom of the world I am still constantly amazed at the number of CFites I run into. Another new one yesterday who I'll be shareing a beer with tomorrow. That's pretty cool.

I too have found a kinship with some of our members...living where I do, there are few opportunities to have buddies….and I’m a buddy kind of guy.
I participate in this forum for info and entertainment but most of all, comradery (sp)

And yes….Scott seems to have a heart as big as the Washington sky.

Actually, I only pretend to appreciate the advice. I then go and do what I had intended on doing before I asked for help! Then when I screw up I can ask for more help!

Came over to CF after being sniped at on another sailing forum. Gord and most everyone has made me feel welcome and helped me out almost everytime I asked a question. Great folks and while I've yet to meet anyone from CF I hope to some day! Thanks to all the behind the scene folks who have built up this amazing resource over the years.
