Re: Using your Oven/Cooking aboard

In spite of the space it takes up, I will keep my oven. I love the fresh biscuits on a cool fall morning or hot baked lasagna. When not in use I use it to store cooking utinsils and pans

Re: Using your Oven/Cooking aboard

We cook every day. Pizza, bread cookies and the pressure cooker for roasts, stews and soups. We use the oven for baking, roast veggies and as a warmer.

No criticism was intended. Different strokes for different folks. Good luck, whatever you do.

I bake with my Dutch oven. I even bake with my skillet too for short stuff. I just put the Dutch oven lid on it. It's the same size.

Re: Using your Oven/Cooking aboard

Dismantled parts my three burner stove and oven this year due to corrosion issues.
THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: RETHINKING PROPANE USE ON BOARD: Dismantling the Hillerange Stove Part Two
Went with a single burner propane stove and since I have a 48 volt 10 kw battery bank available I installed a 1500 watt inverter. Just bought a mini bread maker and works great using minimal power that is easily made up with solar and a wind turbine. I'm thinking of adding a small toaster oven for baking other things at some point. Have a Honda 2000 generator as a backup power source if needed though I think the inverter and battery bank will handle most of the cooking.

Re: Using your Oven/Cooking aboard

We've found that we cook on the boat pretty much the way we cook at home. We rarely use an oven and don't use a bbq at home. So we really don't need them on the boat. My only complaint about our boat stove is that it has 3 burners which accomodate smaller pots. I would prefer 2 burners on the same size stove so we could use larger pots.

Re: Using your Oven/Cooking aboard

We use ours pretty regulalry but if you don't use it, there is no need for it.

The only other consideration is eventual resale value as a camp stove will scream to prospecitive buyers what else did you do half as...

Re: Using your Oven/Cooking aboard

If you're planning on putting a microwave in the space, then I would consider getting a convection/microwave unit - gives you the micro you want and will use, along with the just-in-case normal oven function. Example: LG LCSC1513ST: 1.5 cu. ft. Countertop Convection Microwave Oven with Optional Trim Kit | LG USA

Convection / Microwave is the way to go, of course it uses a lot of power, but if you have the power they are great.

Re: Using your Oven/Cooking aboard

I wouldn't be without my oven on the boat. I don't use it much during very hot wx but sure enjoy roasting meat & veggies & reheating leftovers with it when it is a bit cooler.

And, it is a great place to store the kettles.

Whatever works for you though.
