This is crazy. No offers? The Vision 2 is my favourite piece of equipment. Now they have stopped production and when mine finally dies, I will have to move on.. Maybe I should buy a spare?

Question - does electronic equipment deteriorate only when used, or do components have a natural lifespan, even when stored carefully?

Capacitors do age sitting on a shelf. Not nearly as quickly as if they are powered, but they do age.

Check what it takes to change the MMSI number. I have no idea how easy or difficult that might be.

Yes I do. You can clearly MMSI easily by just taking it to any distributor of vesper and they will clear it for you. I was using the device until a couple of months ago when we purchased a new boat which already has AIS on it. So it is fully operational and has been in use and has been well looked after. I have a concern that I've just thought about. I wonder if Garmin will do the reprogramming of the MMSI? Because of course Vesper is sadly no more. I'm going to call them and find out. Also, it does not have an antenna splitter or is that built into the Vision 2?

Hi Alex, I did check with Vesper technical support, and they told me that any agent could reset it for us, and that if that was not possible, then they could do it remotely from New Zealand. As to the antenna splitter, that is a separate piece of hardware which is not for sale here.

I’m not sure where you are, of course, but they advised me to go to Long Beach Marine, electronics, which is near where my boat is, so that should be possible to get a recommendation from them for your area. Cheers Garth

Me again Garth. I checked with Garmin and they gave me a "we regret to inform you that..." No longer support that model and cannot re-program it. When I try the Vesper website I get a pass through to Garmin. How did you get hold of Vesper directly?

Thanks, let me know what you find.out. I'll try to see if I can get hold.of Vesper directly again but from what they said in the email Garmin are not going to support any of the older Vespers, including reprogramming the MMSI data.
