I must go down to the sea again
To the sea and the lonely sky.
I left my socks and vest down there
I wonder if they're dry?
Spike Milligan

"If you try to watch the movie Titanic backwards...it's actually about a magical boat that saves people."

"One could not be a successful scientist without realizing that, in contrast to the popular conception supported by newspapers and mothers of scientists, a goodly number of scientists are not only narrow-minded and dull, but also just stupid."
James D. Watson

"You cannot wake a person who is pretending to be asleep."
Navajo Proverb

“But the trouble is that conscious futility is something only for the young. One cannot go on "despairing of life" in to a ripe old age. One cannot go on being "decadent", since decadence means falling and one can only be said to be falling if one is going to reach the bottom reasonably soon. Sooner or later one is obliged to adopt a positive attitude toward life and society.”

Re: What is Your Favorite Quote?

Related to Ribbit's post, I recently saw a perfectly restored Morris Minor. Can't be very many of them in the US and this one was pristine. Somebody had obviously labored very hard to make it perfect.

Bumper sticker was on a piece of lexan that was tied on - nobody would stick a sticker to this car. Bumper sticker read "The parts falling off this car are of the finest British manufacture."

That's some funny stuff.

For some reason I often use the quote "I say we nuke the entire site from orbit, it's the only way to make sure." (from the movie Aliens)

"Think you used enough dynamite, there, Butch?" was one I liked, from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Another, of course, is that "there are very few personal problems that cannot be solved by the proper application of high explosives."

He didn't write it. Not in any of his published material, although it's often mistakenly attributed to him. The first recorded instance of that was many years after Clemen's death.

Reminds me of

Re: What is Your Favorite Quote?

I'm trying to find
the source of the Margaret Mead quote:

“It is easier to change a man's religion than to change his diet."

But I cannot find where she said it.
Anybody know?

Often used on the job site when I realize that a project I've completed isn't perfect, but I need to move on, regardless of the fact that I am not completely satisfied with it:

"This should grind their bones very nicely"

Used every time I find JUST the right tool to misuse for my current project.

From "Beanstalk Bunny", starring Daffy Duck as Jack (of beanstalk fame) and Elmer Fudd as the giant, with Bugs along for, well, who knows why. Elmer finds just the right gadget to "grind their bones" (presumably to make his bread.) I can't explain it. You just have to see it, and maybe you'll start using this quote, too.
