Nice👍🏻

Which back did you get? A couple of years ago I was seriously thinking of going MF. I was looking at a PhaseOne 645DF+ and a refurbished or used P40 back. In the end I just couldn't justify it as a hobby camera and the P backs did not seem to be so practical untethered.

Especially if he replies that he got an IQ280 for his Hassy

Come to think of it any IQ back would get me jealous

then again, the P40 would also

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Eighteen years ago when everyone was dumping their Hasselblads and moving into digital, I purchased a complete set of lenses for my 500cm. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out to be one of my best financial investments. Then eight years ago I bought a Hasselblad Ixpress 96V 16MP back for it, which worked excellent, but proved not be be practical because it was tethered to an image bank. I sold the Ixpress last year and was just about to sell off all the Hassy stuff at a huge loss and go digital Canon or Nikon....

But when I was at Heathrow a few days ago and priced the new stuff, I decided to give medium format one more try and bought a Phase One P25 for Hasselblad 22MP back. Untethered and uses CF memory cards. Looks easy to use. Basically, the back works just like a film back and is about the same size.

Maybe I was just over reacting to being at a beautiful festival on Friday and seeing all the colorful costumes, and there I was.... Taking pictures with my... iPad. Mrs. Kenomac is the photographer in the family, she's a natural. I'm hoping for some great travel photos out of the Hasselblad.

For some reason, the depth of field always looks wrong to me in most digital shots. To me, all photos start looking the same when taken full-auto. I miss the composition and f stop stuff.

My comment about tethering a P back is more related to the ability to use the screen to check focus. If you are coming from film, then that is something you won't be missing

I have 500C that I bought many years ago. Have not used it for ages and I only have the 80mm. It has no light meter, so outside I tried checking the light with my digital SLR and then took the photo with the Hassy

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Our Hassy 500cm has a metered 45 degree prism finder. I went all-in 18 years ago, then..... never used any of it. But there's just something about the way that Hasselblad sounds when you push the shutter.

I need to give it one more try.

Oh, I get it. You're getting Mrs. Kenomac a present for Father's Day!

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

She really is the better photographer. Many years ago, I shot a bunch of weddings using a Mamiya 330 setup, but she just seems to have a better eye for composition.

A few times I thought of buying one of those but it never happened

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Damn... I'm looking at used HB & P1 kits at a local store now.... It does not help that I just agreed the sale of my apartment and the money will just be sitting in my bank a/c and funds whilst I'm sailing

Re: Any Photographers with DSLR's Around ?

Hoppy,

I just read your avatar, you're like me... A displaced Californian born in Canada living in Whoville, Massachusetts with a boat in Sardegna, Italy.

It's going to be three weeks before we get to try out the Hasselblad, contact me in mid June and we'll let you know how it's working out. A good friend might contribute a six year old wide screen Mac computer towards the effort, then we can run a FireWire cable in to do editing on their Capture One software.

This sort of reminds me of listening to a good import LP played through an analog tube amplifier.... and realizing that the old stuff we grew up with was actually pretty good. The digital music sounds.... thin. Damn, I wish I hadn't thrown out my old Marrantz 2270 back in 1989.

Anyone clean their cameras, or is it best to send them out?

Thanks,

Erika, do you know where this dirt is? If in the body then you can clean the sensor yourself. Just google for a good youtube video. If it is in one or more lenses then I would have them serviced. It's why I prefer the L-class lenses that are pretty good at keeping the dirt and mold out.
