Document Library - New site feature

We have a new feature to house documents, manuals and schematics and forms. The Cruisers Forum Library. Look for the link in the top tabs (top of page or Click here.

Members can upload documents, add a short description and then other folks will be a able to browse and download as desired. this should be especially useful for hard to find manuals and schematics. We're still tweaking this a bit but it's up and running now. A couple of notes about this feature...

1. It doesn't play nicely with the mobile app so fire up a regular browser please.

2. When you upload a file, it must be approved by a moderator before it will display publically. We may eliminate this requirement but for now we are doing this to ensure that no malicious files, or poorly formatted content is loaded. Please be patient - this may take a few hours...

3. As we accumulate more content we may add some additional categories and move content around.

Sounds good.

I assume PDFs are what is required... any size limitations?

Re: Document Library - New site feature

I like it. I have found it can be a real challenge to find manuals on old equipment of which I seem to have a lot of vintage out of production stuff. With information I have been able to bring most of back to a productive life. Nothing wrong in being old. Well I may be exaggerating a bit there.

Suggest you organize the buckets.

For example for Manuals it should be Manuals/engines/universal. Or Manuals/engines/Yanmar. or Manuals/Electronics/Raymarine/mfd or Manuals/electronics/Raymarine/autopilots

This will allow the library to grow in an orderly fashion and allow people to more easily find what they are looking for.

Re: Document Library - New site feature

I noticed it has an upload limit. I tried to upload three manuals and it would only take two. The notice screen flashed by to fast to read the reason all I saw was Maximum.

That's what I was thinking. Service manuals where you would normally have to pay $$ to buy them.

We can add more buckets or rename them and move content around as it populates. The plan here was to see what sort of content is loaded and adjust to meet need.

There is a limit to how many files you can load in rapid fashion. This is to avoid overloading the server. I think if you try to load the 3rd one now it should go without issue.

I tried again and it said that "The maximum upload limit would be exceeded by this file."

Some of these manuals can be large.
I'm trying to upload a Yanmar installation manual for several engine models. Something I think a lot of members would like to have available.

I like this feature it will be a big asset to all.
thank you for setting it up!

I don't know for sure but I thought that as long as you are not trying to profit off of the material IT was ok to share.

I know that it is ok to disseminate this material for the purposes of education. I would believe that this would qualify as educational purposes.

Hopefully someone more knowledgably could comment.

Re: Document Library - New site feature

Suggestion - separate boat owners manuals from diesel manuals. Might need a way to organize by builder and model.
