I think we might just allow this for someone from the colonies

Actually I carry a small US flag for flying from the spreaders if I have an American on board.

Re: Registering a UK registered boat in the US or Caymans

Thanks to Dockhead for the easy to understand the UK registration/documentation.

The US is also pretty simple. A non-US citizen owner, including a US corporation or other legal entity (such as an LLC) with foreign owners or shareholders holding a majority interest also cannot "document" a vessels with the US Coast Guard.

Many (maybe all) US states offer state registration to non-US citizens and companies. However, many US states have personal property tax that must be paid yearly on boats. In these states even USCG "documents" vessels but also be state registered and pay the tax.

There is no such thing as a "US registered" boat. It is either "US documents" with the USCG and "flagged" US or it state "registered" or in the high-tax states both may apply.

The only US state whose boating rules I am familiar with is the boating rules is Hawaii. Hawaii has no personal property tax on boats. A US document vessel that is kept there in not required to also register with the State of Hawaii. A non-US citizen may own a Hawaii registered boat and kept it there.
