Delivery Coasts from Caymans to North Florida

Hello all,

Can anyone give me an approximate delivery cost for moving a 41' cat from the Caymans to North Florida (Jacksonville)?

Since I am new to sailing I would not fell comfortable bringing her back myself....would it be advisable to go along with the temporary skipper for the experience?...would he charge me more if I wanted to tag along?

Thanks!

Bob

It's a great idea to go along with the delivery crew. What better way to learn your boat than an ocean voyage.

Delivery skipper will be able to tell you what he's doing and wgy he's doing it...

Perhaps. I know a delivery skipper who will not take a job if the owner will be onboard, but most will happily. The issue is that you should be prepared to act as a crew member, not the captain. Or, you can hire a captain to join you as crew an act in an advisory capacity.

Figure average charge about $3/mile + expenses.

You can also hire a training captain. Even though we had done lots of classes, chartered several times and had several years of sailing under our belts, we still did that with our first off shore trip in our cat and it was well worth it. We hired a captain that had been doing the PDQ University for their new owners before PDQ went under, but she was very experienced with many different cats. She worked our butts off, but we got to where we were going and she made sure we knew what we were doing, too. Nanette Kruze is her name (and I'm sure there are many others, too).

Well worth the money, which was actually pretty reasonable, as I recall.
