I'm about to sand my brightwork to clean wood, seal with West 105 and 207 hardener, apply several coats of clear LPU, then top coat with 1-2 layers of Sterling Cloud White for such a period as I can enjoy not having varnish. If I ever want to sell the boat, I'll sand off the opaque coat and apply another clear coat. At least that's what I'm threatening, since the teak looks so pretty. I'll send pics.

Why the clear? Just load it up with plenty of epoxy, sand it out nice, then prime and paint. Then you can strip back to the epoxy if you ever want to. Save yourself some trouble and skip that step. You'd sand most of the clear off when stripping off the topcoat anyway.

Entirely rational response, but as you are well aware, we humans get fascinated by shiny things, so the lure of the shine is irresistible, even though it's irrational. Can't help myself, must make shine, people will oooh and ahhh. Then when I cover it up, they will make terrible faces and forget that I did it. Minaret, I can't explain it, it's just aberrant compulsion to attract attention. Come on, you make your money feeding this impulsive need. Come visit me in the booby hatch, will you? And bring some 220 paper, please....
