SAnchor swivel Turns to Wrong Position

Hello,

We have an anchor swivel on our bruce. When we raise the anchor it always wants to swivel sideways and refuse to be pulled up into the roller and guide. I don't know much about anchor swivels but they seem to be pretty simple devices. Any hints on adjustments we can make to get the anchor to run true?

your swivel is an extraneous bit of metal .
i do not use one.
the swing of your boat on anchor is going to tewist chain with and without that swivel.
when i raise anchor i take that time to untwist the chain and to inspect my chain and clean it as it is raised onto my deck and into the deck hole for the chain locker.
i was anchored by one fluke of bruce in zihuatenejo for 2 months, very securely and comfortably--the rocks helped keep anchored well. we turned 360 every day with tide changes and winds....
there will be twist, and anchor and chain need minding while being raised. might as well inspect and clean that chain.

A friend who owns a Rocna (no, seriously), had the same problem. He called the manufacturers and was told that their products should not have a swivel. He threw the swivel away and never had the problem again.

That said, our Bruce with swivel works well and the swivel itself helps us keep the chain un-twisted. We do what Zee, above, describes.

I'm with Zee. I installed a swivel a few years ago after going with all-chain road and encountering twisted chain. After a few years of seasonal usage I've seen no noticeable improvement in the twist in my chain. I still need to untwist it as I haul it in. I'm removing the swivel.

Your issue may having little to do with the swivel Zboss. Our Rocna does the same thing. Sometimes it hits the roller kinda askew, and won't slide in properly. A second attempt usually clears the problem, or sometimes I use a boat hook to rotate the anchor into position.

In our case, the swivel does nothing to help, or hinder. It's "an extraneous bit of metal."

Agree, no chain twist, allows the anchor to set quick and always without fail orientates the anchor the appropriate way as it snugs to the roller which is extremely important with a catamarans VULNERABLE aluminium forebeam.

No problems with the Ultra Swivel, It'll turn the anchor the correct way. Very well-make and heavy duty.

You can always use the swivel as a fishing weight.

Had stainless swivel on my spade for 5 years and while trying to set it with the motors, the swivel broke and lost the anchor. Seems the center pin, which was not viewable, rusted and gave way. Would advise against them unless they can easily be inspected. Think I saw one at WM that comes apart and can be inspected.

Most swivels are THE WEAK LINK unless the pin is larger than the chain itself and then they become the hang up going into most rollers. Get rid of it!
