Polyurethane Slippery ?

My companionway stairs are being redone in cork and I have tested some Polyurethane on a small bit and it doesnt appear to be slippery.

The guy putting them on says I need (I hate it when people tell me what to do!) a 2 part Polyurethane and he has 'some fibers' to put in it to make it less slippery.

I want it to look good and kill intruders.
Obviously all surfaces that are shiny will be slippery with sea water.... but all my crew are nimble etc.

Whats your thoughts?

Mark - I painted my cockpit with a single part "poly" - International, Toplac.

The horizontal surfaces are downright dangerous. Almost all of my crew have fallen.

I am planning to do one more top coat with a mix of silica (sand) which is the norm for this.

I am told that if you can find very fine pure sand you can use that but International sells quantities of special purpose stuff. I am begging a bagfull from my sailing club boatyard.

If you don't add some sort of antislip I fear you will be tempted to tray some of that crap black antiskid tape which doesn't last.

The good news is that even without primer this stuff went on very smooth with 1 1/2 diameter by 4 inch rollers. No orange peel, super nice surface and adherence has been great. In our high temps I had to thin the paint somewhat to get it to flow.

Are you talking about a clear "poly" like a Minwax? If so I used it on our steps and they are fine unless you hit the front edge in socks (don't ask me how I know ). In shoes I have had no slippage even when the shoes are wet. The steps don't get wet though, so that may change things if yours are more exposed to elements.
