Finally Some Show and Tell...

[Stevens 47]

I finally have some pictures to share.

My project is a rebuild of a Stevens 47 that I started February 2006. I purchased the boat at auction, it was damaged in Hurricane Katrina. Trucked it from the Gulf up to San Diego.

All of the structural problems have been addressed. Rebuilt the engine. Built a new rudder with some modifications. New mast is on order. Will bolt on new toe rail, hatches, port lights and all of the rest of the on deck. I should be moving inside to rebuild the interior. Looking at a February-March 09 splash if all goes as I expect.

Shot the water ways and smooth areas on deck and house 2 weeks ago LP. Masked and laid the nonskid finished last Saturday, pulled the tape today, enjoy the pictures.

Looking great...should be a terriffic boat when done. I think those hulls were the basis for the well respected Hylas47 right?

In fact they are the exact same molds used for both the Stevens 47 and the Hylas 47 and they are a superb ocean boat! The Stevens has slightly superior hardware otherwise they are identical I believe.

(Disclosure: I own a Stevens 47 and absolutely LOVE it!! We are in the Virgin Islands on the first leg of a circumnavigation, heading to New Zealand first over the next year.)

Yes as Rangiro says the mold for the Hylas 47 and Stevens 47 are the same. Stevens came first, Bill Stevens was responsible for the creation of the boat along with Rod Stephens of S&S. Stevens yachts had some type of difficulty thus Hylas was born. Both were built by Queen Long of Taiwan. The 47 was redesigned in the late 1980 into the Hylas 49 which is still in production today, seems that the main difference is that the 49 has a longer transom with a built in swim step and the cockpit combing was changed. I needed to replace the stanchion bases, contacted Queen Long they where first rate in their response. They gave me a total, shipped me the bases and told me to put a check into the mail. Bill Stevens lives locally he has been very supportive, giving me advise on upgrades and such.

You know Jack I really have to thank you actually because it was you...with your nickname on here....that alerted me to the existence of the Stevens 47 while I was in the middle of the Grand Boat Search. And now I own one and I tell you I couldn't be happier!!!! These are simply outstanding boats and the more I sail mine the more I like it and more importantly the more confidence I have in it as a vessel that will keep me safe and dry in the worst of weather which is saying a lot.

So thank you.....and thank you a thousand times more!

I can only wish you the BEST for your project and can promise you...you are going to ADORE the finished boat!!!!!
