Re: Best news?

Interesting.

A paper on the macrocyclic lactone research was recently published in the journal Biofouling:

Re: Best news?

Sounds like mixing a bit of ivermectin in the ole' bottom paint next time may be worth a try.

Re: Best news?

I just ordered some ivermectin powder from Sears, of all places. I intend to add some to my bottom paint when I paint in about 3 weeks. No barnacles would be a fine thing.

Re: Best News ?

The link from which I ordered the Ivermectin powder from sears today is no longer up. Weird. I bet there is a paint-manufacturer conspiracy to surpress it based on this here thread. Here's the same stuff from elsewhere. If I have no barnacles by spring in Mexico, I'll update the thread with the info. The research said they used a "trace" so I have no idea how much to use per gallon or how well it will disolve or adhere. , or whether a liquid formulation used on dogs would be the trick. We shall see. Others who use it should think to update us here as well. Jon

$40 just bought me 2-100ml containers of Bomectin that contain 1.0% Ivermectin.

Looking for any thoughts on mixing and a binder.

@James S

In the academic paper shown in the link, they gave a very clear methodology in preparation, concentrations and application (page 993, 994). It seems that they used a 10% concentration of Ivomec, which had a 1% concentration of Ivermectin. They used different types of binders (propylene glycol) with a ratio of 60:40 (glycol/Ivomec) which was mixed in commercially available Antifouling paint. Brushed coating was 200micron dry film thickness.

Reading through the whole paper, they have seriously tried to replicate conditions that are 'real life', and although they mention that further research is needed, I personally feel that this has real potential. This 'Ivomec' Is readily available product for treating cattle and pigs...how awesome is that!

Look forward to read your results.
