Volvo drive plate failure
Have any of you ahd problems with Volvo D2-55 engines? I put in a new one last year and it has had a continuous series of failures of the damper plate. First because the bellhousing was mis-machined, then for other reasons. There is a table at the boatyard with three each of my flywheels, bellhousings, starters, tach sender and damper plates. For 250 hours and two years, this has been a malfunctioning engine. I could go on for hours...

Any similar experiences?

Thanks

andy

Andy,
I believe a call to Volvo customer service would be more beneficial than venting in a public forum.

Customer service
Thanks for your note. I have been dealing with customer service at Volvo and with the warrantee manager. They are quite sympathetic and helpful, although the result is still not good.

I fear that there are more problems with this series of engine than I have been led to believe. The point of my post is not to flame but to get facts.

From my perspective, an engine is an essential part of the safety equipment on a boat. One wants to it run on demand. After three tries, when that fails to happen, it's time to investigate whether there are issues that go past a single failure.

Sorry for the way this was posted folks, but hopefully it makes sense. So if we can keep this post on the subject of the drive plate, it would be great.

Andy,

I installed a D-130 a few years ago and the tach has never worked correctly. It reads 3K too high.

did you have a similar issue and was it resolved?

thanks ,
