Perkins Engine Identification

Hello. Can anyone identify what model this engine is. I'm looking to purchase a boat with this in it. Thanks

Looks like a 4-108.

Re: Perkins Engine Identification

Agree, a 4-108 or possibly a 4-107 depending on the boat age if an original motor.

4-108 looks a carbon copy of ours.

Re: Perkins Engine Identification

I would try and the numbers off the side. Also if that's not reachable, head has stamping right next to coolant exit point. I'm also not sure if 108 and 107 share the head

Re: Perkins Engine Identification

The engine serial number should confirm. Left side of block just under the head is a common location.

It will tell you country of build, family, year of build. These engines were built in nearly 40 countries.

It will probably only be a 4-108 or 4-236.

The water pump looks to be in the wrong place for a low line 4236

Re: Perkins Engine Identification

Cant quite see the valve cover, but the 4-236 has a wider flatter cover than the 4-108. Appears to be a 4-108/107 to me from other things.

I've wondered what a "low line" is for years. My 4-108 (1985) had the heat exchanger on the side of the block rather than the front like the one in the picture here. Mine was a lot lower profile than this model.

Re: Perkins Engine Identification

Looks like either a 4.107 or 4.108 to me too. If you remove that coolant tank there should be a number cast into the head right next to where the thermostat sits. That's should give you all you need to figure out the particulars of that engine. I'll try to attach two pictures, one of my engine (Perkins 4.108) and one with the tank removed, the casting numbers are right next to the big hole the tank sits on Click image for larger version

Re: Perkins Engine Identification

4-107 has weep holes in block below injectors (wet liners) , 4 -108 does not have weep holes (dry liners)
